Not worth the energy to buy it. As soon as you would enter the number a loud screeching sound would begin and static would cover any conversation. I bought and returned this phone two times. Neither ever worked. The cord is permanently installed so you can't replace it with a longer one.
However, the call ID display was very dim, can't see it in the dark or not well lited area. It is a nice soldid phone. I need to find a phone with better/brighter caller ID display. All reviews have mentioned you can't change the cord on the phone. I brought it at Walmart. I returned it because I can't see the caller ID.
The display on the caller-id improved when I cranked up the contrast in the settings. I like the black & silver color combo and it matches my RCA clock radio. As for the 4 AA batteries it requires, I bought some Energizer NiMH rechargeables and will swap them when needed -- well worth the $12 investment. A backlit caller-id window would have been nice, but not crucial to my needs, since I mostly call out from the phone and usually answer it during daylight hours. I already knew what it didn't do and that is was battery a hog. By now, you've probably read all of the negative reviews and so had I when I picked this phone up locally, on sale for a sawbuck. The 3-4 foot (stretched) cable is perfect for my situation as a bedside phone. The sound in & out (I spoke with my HOH mother without any complaint from her) are both good with 3 volume adjustments & the ringer has high, low & off.
They are made by Thomson, a company notorious for making junk for RCA The bad part is once one of the 2 cords goes bad, the phone has to be trashed. The date and time automatically sets when you receive your first call. GE doesn't make these phones. I have MagicJack and this phone works great with it. The Caller ID will display the number, date, and time. There aren't any screws to open this thing up to fix anything, everything is in a plastic mold.
That's not acceptable, and it makes for a very expensive phone in the long run. I was quite satisfied with this, even though the cords are non-replaceable and the display is not lighted, until I discovered that the batteries (4xAA) even alkalines only last a couple of months and when they die, the phone goes dead too. I'm returning the one I still can return.
